FAI F5D is the international class of electric pylon racing.
Using brushless motors and NiCd or NiMH battery packs, these little
models turn tiny props at around 35,000rpm and reach speeds close
to 200mph.
The
Canadian F5D team trial was held in Calgary in September 2003.
See the results here. The selected
team was Roy Andrassy, Igor Lekomtsev and David Sawers. Peter
Thannhauser who came fourth in the trial was appointed team manager
and reserve pilot.
In January 2004, Igor Lekomtsev announced that he would be stepping
down from his position in the Canadian team due to personal reasons.
Peter Thannhauser stepped in to take the third place on the team
and Delbert Godon was unanimously elected by the pilots to be
the new team manager.
In February 2004, frequencies were allocated for the competition.
Canada will be flying on 35.280 MHz (Channel 88).
Details on the competition can be found here.
