Speed 400 racing in the CMPRA is run to local Calgary rules.
These rules are set to keep things reasonably simple for beginners
to both electric flight and to racing. The racing is both close
and exciting. In summary the model rules consist of:
6V
Speed 400 motor of Graupner or similar manufacture.
- Model must have a minimum of 150 sq ins wing area including
any area inside the fuselage but excluding any tailplane area.
- A maximum of 8 NiCd or NiMH cells.
- APC 5x5 E-propeller.
A race consists of 10 laps of a triangular course 200' x 200'
x 60'. Cutting one pylon results in a 15 second penalty, cutting
two pylons means disqualification from the heat. We use a flying
start with a 20 second countdown to allow pilots to launch and
get into position. Crossing the start line early results in a
cut being awarded.
